RAMS Level 1
Remote Adventure Medicine
A practical, expedition-focused medical training programme designed exclusively for OGA Level 2 Guides progressing toward the Level 3 Guide qualification. This course bridges the gap between foundational first aid and the realities of managing incidents in remote, high-consequence environments — developing the judgement, structure, and leadership required to operate at Level 3.
Course Outline — Scope of Practice (Indicative)
- Scene management and dynamic risk assessment
- Primary and secondary survey in remote settings
- Airway positioning and basic adjunct use
- Oxygen therapy and monitoring
- Catastrophic bleed control — tourniquets, haemostatic agents
- Immobilisation and casualty packaging for evacuation
- Assisted rehydration strategies — oral and supported methods
- Recognition and early management of expedition medical conditions
- Communication and coordination within remote response systems
- Documentation and incident reporting
- Expedition medication awareness and drug planning
- Intramuscular (IM) delivery and introduction to intraosseous (IO) access principles
- Application of essential medications aligned to environment, remoteness, and operational risk
